Exelastis pumilio (Zeller, 1873)

Synonymy

  • Mimeseoptilus pumilio Zeller, 1873
  • Marasmarcha liophanes Meyrick, 1886
  • Mimaesoptilus gilvidorsis Hedemann, 1896 (not Zeller, 1877)
  • Hepalastis pumilio (Zeller, 1873)

Morphology

Gielis[1] places pumilio in Exelastis Meyrick, 1908, but Arenberger[2] records the species for Australia as Hepalastis pumilio.

Matthews and Landry[3] provide a description and note that the female genitalia do not include the "paired horn" signa which Gielis[4] identified as an apomorphy for Exelastis. They also note that worn males of Exelastis pumilio "can be easily determined by brushing the scales from the tip of the abdomen to reveal the distinct terminal curvature of the valvae."

Landry[5], Yano, Gates Clark and Yoshiyasu[6] and Gielis[7] all illustrate the genitalia.
