Botanical Description

Scyphiphora hydrophylacea (Yamstick Mangrove) is a multi-stemmed shrub growing to 2 m. It's roots are not often above ground.

The leaves are simple, opposate, fleshy, oblong-ovate (oblong to egg-shaped), 4-9 cm long and 2-5 cm wide. The leaf apex is rounded to slightly emarginate and the petiole is 1-2 cm long.

The inflorescence is a cluster of usually 3-7 (but up to 13) white or slightly pink flowers. The flowers have 4 (sometimes 5) stamens.

The fruit is a 4-seeded pale green, cylindrical and ribbed, 0.6 - 1 cm long ([1]).

Distribution

In Australia, Scyphiphora hydrophylacea is found sparingly in estuaries from Price Regent River in Western Australia, through the Northern Territory, to Bustard Head, Queensland ([1]).
