Herbert River

Estuary Information: OzCoasts

The mangrove forests which occupy much of the intertidal surface along the shores of Hinchinbrook Island and the neighbouring mainland coast, cover an area of around 220 km2 and contain 28 species of mangrove. [1]

Mangrove and Saltmarsh Species

The occurrence of Nypa fruticans at a single location in the Herbert delta is interesting because it's nearest next occurrence is well to the north in the Morgan/McIvor River beyond Cooktown. Possible that this is a human introduction. [1]
